Ani-Magic usually starts off with a performance of taiko drumming at opening cermeonies. This year, the performing group was the UCLA Kyodo Taiko.

Also performing at various times during Ani-Magic was singer Maiyu C. She introduced herself to me on Friday afternoon after her rehearsal. She even allowed me to take pictures of her in a costume that she didn't particularly like. It was a pleasure to meet Maiyu and the fans really enjoyed her energetic performances.

Also invited to perform was the duo known as Ramen and Rice. They are well-known on the anime convention circuit for their string arrangements of anime and video game music. I am also quite a fan and it was nice of them to introduce themselves to me. It was another one of the weekend's pleasant surprises.
