so much fun last year, so we decided to do it again for Anime Expo 2004. This year was a little
different. This year we were joined by a group who created swimsuits inspired by the Final Fantasy
video game series. As a result, we got more males to participate in this gathering. Even I got into
the act, dressed as a DOAX-inspired Jann Lee. I discovered what it was like to be photographed by
a mob of photographers. I'm usually behind a camera so it was a very eye-opening experience for
me and I had a lot of fun. Many of the photographers are my friends, and they seemed to get a big
kick out of it also.
Planning for this gathering began many months before Anime Expo, when the Final Fantasy
cosplayers challenged the DOAX group to a volleyball match. There was a lot of hostility in the
beginning, but as the convention neared, we were able to put all of that aside and cooperate and
become a lot more friendly towards each other. The original called for a volleyball match between
the two groups, but we just couldn't manage to organize it. Instead, after the gathering, most of us
went to the Expo's Summer Festival for tea and snacks.
