Conclusion
FanimeCon 2008 was memorable to me for so many reasons.  First of all, it was the longest I've been
away from home to cover a convention.  Because of all of the duties that I had to fulfill, this turned into a
6-day outing and by the end I was starting to get a little homesick.  Wandering through the empty
convention center on Monday night was a very lonely experience.  By then, I just wanted to go home.

FanimeCon is the only anime convention that I go to that has an attendance of more than 3,000.  So,
there's lots of work to be done here.  It's always fun to be able to cover many different aspects of a
large convention.  It's the only convention where I get to do a ton of music coverage and a ton of
cosplay coverage.  Doing all of that is much easier with great facilities and a helpful convention staff.  I
would have never done it without people who were working behind the scenes to help me.  Fanime was
an absolutely wonderful convention to cover.

Of course, what makes a convention memorable is the people that you meet and it was nice to meet
some new people from Northern California and even from around the country.  You don't meet many
new people at small local conventions.  Everybody from fans to cosplayers to convention staff helped to
make this one of the most fun conventions I've ever been to, and I'm not exactly a big fan of really large
conventions.  What's nice about FanimeCon is that it's the right size.  It's large enough to have a strong
program lineup and good facilities, but small enough so that you don't have to wait in massive lines for a
lot of things and where you can have time to slow down and enjoy the social aspects of the convention.
It was also nice to have so many familiar faces from Southern California make the trip.  I see them so
often, but I never get tired of them.

With all that there is to cover at this convention, Fanime has become one of the more important
conventions on my schedule.  Concerts and cosplay are my two most favorite things to cover and
photograph.  There's certainly a lot of both at this convention.  It's definitely worth it to make the trip
from Southern California.
