It felt good to be back at this convention. In the three years of its existence, it really hasn't grown.
Attendance still hovers around the 1,000 mark. It's a comfortable number, but I'd like to see it grow a
little more just so it could look a little busier. It was only slightly bigger than the last time I was here, but
there were a lot of familiar faces so I felt right at home.
There were a few problems with the music program, especially on the first day when most of the bands
were either cancelled of rescheduled and we had to settle for a half-hearted taiko drumming
performance. Honestly, a lot of us who were watching that thought it was just a warm-up. However, the
quality of the remaining two days of music more than made up for it. The local bands were pretty solid
and I enjoyed it.
The masquerade contest is still growing. It's still small compared to other conventions, but that's not a
problem with me. At this point, I really don't like sitting through masquerade contest that takes hours. I
just don't have the patience for that anymore. This one was just the right size. It was short, but still very
entertaining.
I'm definitely a big fan of this location and that's what will probably keep me coming back to this
convention. Without a doubt, this the best location of any convention that I go to. The facilities are very
nice. There's a ton of parking and decent restaurants withing walking distance. Most of all, it's a
beautiful place to shoot cosplay. These days, I still enjoy taking cosplay photographs. I just don't like
doing at conventions so much anymore mostly because of the hideous locations that most conventions
are held at. Honestly, the only conventions where I don't feel frustrated shooting cosplay are
Fanimecon up in San Jose and Mikomicon. It's all about the location and being at CSUN makes life
easier for those of us who like to take cosplay photographs.
See you next year,
